Michel Brück

Michel Brück was born in 1965 in Gießen near Frankfurt on the Main, Germany.
His grandfather was a Master Joiner and his father a university doctor who enjoyed furniture making in his spare time. Throughout his childhood, Michel learned a wide variety of carpentry skills and had much wood-working experience from an early age.
His interest in the classical guitar began at the age of 15 when he began his formal musical studies. He received tuition in classical guitar from Alfred Schadeberg (University of Gießen) for a period of four years. Following this, he actively took part in a series of master courses and still performs to this day.
After completing high school, he began his training as a guitar maker at Lakewood Guitars, where he remained for five years. Of great importance, Michel has also participated in masterclasses given by the great luthier, Jose Romanillos. This gave Michel great exposure to the traditional building techniques of the old Spanish masters, many of which he incorporates into his own, unique style. Over the years he has also restored and played many old guitars by Antonio de Torres, Vicente Arias, Santos Hernandez and Manuel Ramirez, to name but a few. Direct contact with these instruments, their sound and the way in which they are made has had great influence on his work. While in posession of these instruments, he has also made several reproductions, most notably a wonderful instrument built by Vicente Arias (see photos).
Since 1991, he has been working in his own workshop in Königsberg (Hessen), Germany. He lives here with his wife, Jutta, and his two sons, Max and Carl.
He works alone and makes an average of 12 guitars per year.
