Silviu Ciulei is another of the Parkening International Guitar Competition semi-finalists who stopped by during the competition to play some guitars. Silviu was born in Romania and got his undergraduate and master’s degree in the US. He is currently working toward his DMA at Florida State University, where he is a graduate teaching assistant to Bruce Holzman. I was pleased to see that in addition to being an accomplished classical guitarist he seems to know his way around flamenco, as you can see in two of the videos. Here he is playing Weiss’ Passacalgia on a 2010 Pepe Romero Jr. guitar and a couple of bulerias on a Felipe Conde FP-14.

I saw him at the GFA this year. He finished 3rd. Good guitarist.
That Pepe Romero guitar has a nice rich sound, doesn’t it?
