Get Ready for the 2019-2020 U.S. International Guitar Series Grand Finale – featuring: William Jenks & Ian O’Sullivan

News

U.S. Classic Guitar has already presented us two virtual concerts this Fall. We had a chance to hear a Grammy-Winner guitarist, Jason Vieaux and a wonderful duo of Eliot Fisk and Zaira Meneses. Now, it’s the time for the U.S. International Guitar Series 2019-2020 grand finale – the concert of the U.S. Classic Guitar President, William Jenks and the great Hawaiian guitarist, Ian O’Sullivan.

The final virtual concert of the 2019-2020 U.S. International Guitar Series Grand Finale presented by U.S. Classic Guitar will be brought to you aloha style from Hawaii on Sunday, November 15 at 2 PM (Hawaii Time), 4 PM (P.S.T.). U.S. Classic Guitar President, William Jenks, will perform from the Big Island a traditional program of music from the 16th century through modern times including works by Luis Milan, Johann Sebastian Bach, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Agustin Barrios, and more. Ian O’Sullivan will perform from Oahu on classical guitar and ukulele some of his own original compositions as well as his arrangements of some of the most beautiful and celebrated Hawaiian music ever written.

On the occasion of the final concert, William Jenks will also give a pre-concert performance and interview on All Classical 89.9 FM’s Thursdays at Three Program with radio host Christa Wessel on November 12, 2020 at 3 PM (P.S.T.). You can either listen to this program on the radio or stream it online from www.allclassical.org.

William Jenks is a rare talent from a new generation of classical guitarists best known for his rich musicality and emotionally evocative performances. Jenks has had an extensive performance career which has brought him around the world performing concerts, teaching master classes, and serving on the jury for many important international guitar festivals. In April and May of 2019, Jenks performed solo concerts, taught master classes, and served on the jury for several international guitar festivals in Europe including the 17th International Guitar Festival in Peniscola, Spain, the 17th International Guitar Festival in Hondarribia, Spain, the Rust, Austria International Guitar Festival, and the Skopje, Macedonia International Guitar Festival.  In July of 2018 he performed at the International Guitar Festival in Mottola, Italy and he returned to perform at the Fiuggi, Italy International Guitar Festival where he received an award on his previous trip for his promotion of guitar music.

Ian O’Sullivan is a classically-trained guitarist and composer from the North Shore of O’ahu. Well-versed in Hawaiian music and the ‘ukulele, in addition to the western classical repertoire, Ian has performed with guitar luminaries such as Benjamin Verdery, Andrew York, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Scott Tennant and Martha Masters just to name a few. He has performed internationally as well as throughout the United States including Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall.  In 2013 Ian released his first solo album “Born and Raised,” featuring his original compositions alongside music of fellow Hawaii composers. In 2016 he released his second album “Songs for the North Shore”- a set of original compositions written for specific places and stories from the North Shore of O‘ahu.
